Air Jordan 1 High "Royal" Returns With Special Packaging
Release Rundown

Air Jordan 1 High "Royal"
Air Jordan 1 High OG “Royal” Is Officially Back
One of the original Air Jordan 1 colorways is officially returning.
The Air Jordan 1 High OG “Royal” is confirmed to release on October 10, 2026, bringing the iconic black and blue combination back to shelves for the first time in its traditional form since 2017. The pair carries style code IQ5495-005 and will retail for $185.
At first glance, Jordan Brand has kept things exactly where they should be. Black leather forms most of the upper, while Game Royal covers the toe box, Swoosh, heel and ankle panels. A clean white midsole separates the upper from the Royal outsole.
No unnecessary redesign, no wild material switch — just one of the strongest original Air Jordan 1 colorways returning in familiar form.
Special Packaging References an Iconic 1985 Photo
The sneaker itself stays traditional, but Jordan Brand is adding something special to the presentation.
The 2026 “Royal” arrives in a special shoebox inspired by the famous 1985 Michael Jordan “Flight Guy” photo, showing a young Jordan wearing the black and blue Air Jordan 1 alongside matching Nike apparel. The imagery extends across the box and packaging, giving this release considerably more character than a standard retro.
That photo has become one of the defining images associated with the Royal colorway. Photographer Chuck Kuhn captured Jordan wearing the pair during the early Nike era, helping establish the shoe’s place in Air Jordan history even though the black and blue makeup was far removed from the Chicago Bulls colors most people associate with MJ.
The packaging is a nice touch, especially for collectors who already own previous versions and need a little more reason to return.
How Will the Royal Perform in Today’s Sneaker Market?
That may actually be the most interesting part of this release.
The Royal Air Jordan 1 originally debuted in 1985 and has returned several times since, including notable retros in 2001, 2013 and 2017. The 2017 version was a major release during a very different era for the Air Jordan 1, when OG colorways could generate enormous demand.
Jordan Brand also released the “Royal Reimagined” in 2023, but that pair replaced the traditional leather construction with suede. The 2026 version is therefore a much more direct return to the classic formula.
The sneaker market has changed considerably since 2017, though.
Air Jordan 1 demand has cooled after years of heavy releases, and even strong Jordan retros are no longer automatic sellouts. That could actually work in favor of people who simply want to wear the shoe. Instead of another impossible release, there is at least a realistic chance that a classic like the Royal could be more accessible this time around.
At $185, Jordan Brand has also kept the price below several other premium retros currently sitting around or above the $200 mark.

The Air Jordan 1 High OG “Royal” releases on October 10, 2026 for $185.
The pair arrives in Black/Game Royal-White and carries style code IQ5495-005. The release is expected through Nike SNKRS and select Jordan Brand retailers, with full-family sizing also reported.
There is not much Jordan Brand needs to change here. The Royal is already one of the most recognizable Air Jordan 1 colorways ever made, and the special 1985-inspired packaging gives the 2026 edition enough of its own identity.
The bigger question is simply how the market reacts.
Nine years after the last traditional retro, does an OG Air Jordan 1 like the Royal still have enough pull to create serious demand — or has the current Jordan 1 market cooled enough that these might actually be relatively easy to grab?
