Design (materials you can feel)

This AJ3 keeps the silhouette’s clean geometry and swaps in rugged, heritage fabrics that nod to Levi’s workwear roots. Most of the upper is a soft, off-white twill that reads like broken-in denim rather than stiff canvas. Along the mudguard and heel, the classic “elephant” panel is traded for a hairy, pony-hair style overlay in light tan—high-texture, instantly noticeable, and a clever “mane” wink to the zodiac theme.

Perforated white leather around the collar and a tumbled leather tongue bring familiar Jordan polish back into the mix. Levi’s red becomes the accent color: a bold heel tab with classic NIKE AIR wordmark, a red Jumpman on the tongue, and bright red insoles printed with Levi’s archival typography. Underfoot you get a clean sail midsole and a gum outsole with red and white hits—grippy, wearable, and the perfect vintage contrast to all that cream.

Little touches push the storytelling: “Year of the Horse” is stitched inside the tongue, and the palette lands right between wardrobe-friendly and special-occasion.

On-foot outlook

If you gravitate to neutral Jordans with one loud detail, this is easy to wear and hard to miss. The twill will soften and crease like good denim, while the hairy overlay adds depth that pops in photos. Expect true-to-size fit typical of recent AJ3 drops. Style it with light denim, ecru cargos, washed black, or even tailored wool—just keep textures intentional. For longevity, dry brush the twill, avoid harsh cleaners on the hair, and spot-clean with patience.

Why this collab matters

Levi’s and Jordan Brand is a rare pairing that usually hits. Their Levi’s AJ4s (blue, black, and white denim) became modern classics because they merged sneaker culture with garment craft. Moving that formula onto the AJ3 makes sense: the 3’s paneling shows off fabric changes beautifully, and the NIKE AIR heel tab in bright red taps deep nostalgia. With Lunar New Year energy—and a broader apparel collection following—the story is bigger than a colorway; it’s a full brand handshake.

Market temperature

Hype is healthy. The crossover audience (Jordan loyalists, fashion heads, and Levi’s collectors) is large, the palette is wearable year-round, and gum soles never fall out of favor. Regional first drops will build demand ahead of the global release. If allocations lean tight, expect quick sell-through and a steady aftermarket—especially in common sizes.

Release information (rollout explained)

The “Year of the Horse (Sail)” launches Jan 24 in China and Jan 30 in Japan & Korea. The broader Levi’s x Jordan collection then lands worldwide on Feb 20 via Levi’s website and app, SNKRS, and select Levi’s and Jordan Brand stores. Pricing will vary by region; expect men’s sizing with standard women’s conversions on SNKRS. Keep an eye out for matching apparel—co-branded denim and basics usually accompany these projects.
